Microsoft Imagine cup 2012 winners at Australia

IMAGINE CUP 2012 YEAR BOOK

The Microsoft Imagine Cup is the world’s premier student technology competition. We invite all eligible students to use their imagination and passion to create a technology solution that addresses the Imagine Cup 2012 theme: Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems.
Just imagine…. you are a student with a mind full of great ideas. Ideas that have world changing potential! Why not use your intelligence, knowledge and creativity to make a difference? Every year Microsoft hosts the Microsoft Imagine Cup, the world’s premier student technology competition with over 300,000 students from all over the world participating each year
.
In ten years, the Imagine Cup has grown to be a truly global competition focused on finding solutions to real-world problems. Since 2003, over 1.4 million students have participated in the Imagine Cup with 358,000 students representing 183 countries and regions registering for the Imagine Cup 2011 competition.

The Imagine Cup 2012 competition is your chance to:
  1.  Solve tough problems facing the world today, and maybe even turn your ideas into a business.
  2.  Learn new technological skills.
  3.  Test yourself against the brightest students around the world.
  4.  Make new friends.
  5.  Win cash, grants , and prizes – plus, a chance for a free trip to Sydney, Australia, next July to compete at the Imagine Cup 2012 Worldwide Finals!

History 

The Imagine Cup began in 2003 with approximately 1,000 competitors from 25 countries and regions and has grown to more than 358,000 competitors representing 183 countries and regions in 2011. The Imagine Cup Worldwide finals have been held all over the globe. The Imagine Cup 2012 Worldwide Finals will be held in Sydney, Australia.[1]
2003: Barcelona, Spain – Theme: Link between people, information, systems, and devices, using Web services and.NET as the springboard.

2004: São Paulo, Brazil – Theme: Imagine a world where smart technology makes everyday life easier.

2005: Yokohama, Japan – Theme: Imagine a world where technology dissolves the boundaries between us.

2006: Agra & Delhi, India – Theme: Imagine a world where technology enables us to live healthier lives.

2007: Seoul, South Korea – Theme: Imagine a world where technology enables a better education for all.

2008: Paris, France – Theme: Imagine a world where technology enables a sustainable environment.

2009: Cairo, Egypt – Theme: Imagine a world where technology helps solve the world’s toughest problems.

2010: Warsaw, Poland – Theme: Imagine a world where technology helps solve the world’s toughest problems.

2011: New York, United States – Theme: Imagine a world where technology helps solve the world’s toughest problems.

2012: Sydney, Australia – Theme: Imagine a world where technology helps solve the world’s toughest problems.

Game Design
Creating a game that can inspire and teach as well as entertain is an ambitious venture for anyone. Each team competed in three rounds of competition before being selected to advance to compete at the Worldwide Finals.

IT Challenge
The IT Challenge highlights the art and science of developing, deploying, and maintaining IT systems that are efficient, functional, robust and secure. The Worldwide Finalists competed in three rounds of challenges including a 24-hour Virtual Hands-on Lab. The top three competitors have each won a trip to the Worldwide Finals in Sydney, Australia where the first, second, and third place competitors will be announced on 10 July 2012.

Kinect Fun Labs Challenge
The Imagine Cup Kinect Fun Labs Challenge asked students to build an application which leverages the Kinect sensor to deliver natural user interface features such as skeletal tracking, speech recognition, face recognition, and gestures. The top three teams each won a trip to the Worldwide Finals in Sydney, Australia where the first, second, and third place teams will be announced on 10 July 2012.

Windows Metro Style App Challenge
Windows 8 is coming and students were asked to take the lead in creating applications for this new platform. This Challenge tested students’ abilities to design and build a Metro style app that solves one of the world’s toughest problems and wows users across the globe. The top three teams have won a trip to the Worldwide Finals in Sydney, Australia where the first, second, and third place teams will be announced on 10 July 2012.

Windows Azure Challenge
The Windows Azure Challenge has tasked students with leveraging the Windows Azure platform features to build a web solution powered by the cloud and to contribute to the “next big thing” in the technology industry. The top three teams each won a trip to the Worldwide Finals in Sydney, Australia where the first, second, and third place teams will be announced on 10 July 2012.

Windows Phone Challenge
The Windows Phone Challenge encouraged students to create software that can really make a broad impact in the world. The top three teams each won a trip to the Worldwide Finals in Sydney, Australia where the first, second, and third place teams will be announced on 10 July 2012.
